TIPS AND RULES OF THUMB

# 1 Play to learn. That's it. Keep your fun and don't try to get mad about how you lose or losing itself. Learn, make progress, teach others.

# 2 Consistency is king. Better chose a sub-optimal easy combo with a 100% success rate than a difficult one that does 3 damage more but sometimes fails under pressure. Don't overthrow yourself on the hunt for the optimal maximum damage combo. This is by far the most important rule when it comes to combos.

# 3 If you mess something up, don't try it again right away just to complete it. Just recognize the mistake, back off and try it again another time.

# 4 Practice the execution of every command, not just strings and 'difficult' inputs. You need to rely on the correct and clean input of your basic commands without thinking about it at all times and under pressure.

# 5 Use the practice mode to your advantage. The possibilities are countless and you will only make progress if you spend time with that great feature.

# 6 Have a look at the whole character roster. Knowing your enemies is the first step of understanding why you may lose to them.

# 7 Don't let rankings on the internet or public opinions influence you when chosing a character. In Tekken 7 all characters can beat each other and even if there are good and bad matchups its other things that decide over win or lose (execution, knowledge, correct guessing, experience... etc.).

# 8 Practice everything on both sides. Its crucial to be able to perform from both sides, because position changes and changes of camera perspective are part of the game.
A popular Shaheen strategy is to throw people off with his slides forcing them to play on the opposite side. Especially on lower ranks this is very successful.

# 9 Don't get predictable. Always vary your apporach of attacking (or even defending). It's bad when your opponent knows what you are going to do.
